Family Living Class, Day 44
"If you take nothing else from this class, remember why men and women live apart: they can never expect to understand each other. It simply does not make logical sense."
Eve chewed on the end of her pencil, reading. The only reason she didn't hate Family Living was that it was completely brain-unnecessary. It was the same nonsense they'd been feeding you since the second grade, with a few more gory details: don't do drugs, or you'll get track marks and then AIDS and then die. Don't have sex or you'll get syphilis and then go crazy and then die. This is why boys love boys and girls love girls.
It wasn't that complicated, to be honest.
Whatever the reason for the class, Eve didn't mind taking it. It was a nice break from the learning of the rest of the day, a time for her to catch up on some reading while the other girls tried not to look at the boys when the topic of sex came up. They all thought it was something dirty when it was between boys. Eve didn't much care.
Those were women who only ever had talked to women, who, even though they went to school together, never talked to boys, never looked at boys, were veritably afraid of boys.
Those were the women who were proud, so proud that they'd never accept a male boss, a male partner. They would get all messed up in the work world when they weren't carefully divided by gender into classes and such.
Eve licked her finger to turn the page of some Jane Austen.
